On July 24, the federal government announced the first call for applications under The National Rental Affordability Scheme Prospectus which aims to increase the supply of affordable rental dwelings by up to 50,000 by 2012. Under the Establishment Phase (which covers from 1 July 2008 to 30 June 2010), the first call for applications (Round 1) will close on September 4, and a second call for applications (Round 2) will be issued in October. A new report from the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare "Who receives priority housing and how long do they stay?" Shows that over 4500 homeless entered Public Housing in 06/07 read more.

The Federal Government is asking for responses to the Green Paper: Which Way Home? A new Approach to Homelessness. This paper puts forward principles, targets and options for reducing homelessness in Australia. For a copy of the paper see here.
